WIPERS ON, LIGHTS ON!!!
Effective
January 1, 2010 there is a new law that
went into effect and will be enforced by
law enforcement officers in the State of
Ohio.
Specifically, anytime you are operating
a motor vehicle and you activate your
wipers during times of precipitation,
you are required to also turn on your
headlights. Failure to do so could
result in the issuance of a citation and
up to a $150.00 fine for the 5th
degree misdemeanor violation. Many of
the new model vehicles already comply
with the law because the lights are
automatically illuminated when the cars
are in operation.
The law
has been in effect since July 1, 2009,
however, violators were issued warnings
for violations and now citations will be
issued. The violation is called a
secondary traffic offense that means you
cannot be stopped for failure to comply.
However, if you are stopped for another
moving traffic violation is when a
citation can be issued for failure to
comply with this law.
Therefore, it would behoove us to
remember to turn on our lights anytime
you turn your wipers on. Even better,
always turn on your lights anytime that
you are operating a motor vehicle.

CHILD RESTRAINT AND BOOSTER SEAT LAWS
Effective
April 7, 2010 drivers can be fined if
they don’t use booster seats for
children ages 4 through 7 and are
shorter than 4’9” in height.
Failure
to use a booster seat is also a
secondary offense and police cannot stop
a violator for this violation only.
Once again, enforcement will occur when
violators are stopped for another
primary violation.
In
closing, we should use our money to
stimulate the economy rather than
spending money for traffic violation
infractions. Be safe and make every
effort to make 2010 a better and safer
year in which to live in Legendary
Run!!!
